Why the profile matters

Three listings, and most people never scroll past them

Search for almost any local service and the first thing on the screen is a map with three businesses under it, each with a rating, a phone number and a directions button. That block sits above the normal results. For a lot of searches it is the only thing that gets looked at.

Ranking fourth in that block is not fourth place. It is invisible, because the fourth listing only appears if someone taps "more places", and most people do not. The gap between third and fourth is the gap between getting called and not.

What moves a profile is unglamorous and continuous: the right primary category, services listed properly, hours that are actually correct, photos and posts going up, questions answered, citations consistent across the web, and a website behind it that supports the same signals. That last part is why this is sold as local SEO rather than as profile management on its own. Managing the profile while the website contradicts it wastes both.

Questions

What people ask about the map pack

Can I buy Google Business Profile management on its own?

No. It is the first thing local SEO covers, at $299 a month, alongside citations, on-page work, monthly content and rank tracking. Managing the profile without the rest is treating the symptom: the profile ranks partly on the strength of the website behind it, so doing one without the other leaves most of the result on the table.

What does managing the profile actually involve?

Categories and services set correctly, hours and details kept accurate, photos and posts going up regularly, questions answered, and the profile monitored for the edits Google sometimes applies on its own. It is ongoing work, not a one-time setup.

Why does the map pack matter more than normal search results?

For a local business it is usually the first thing on the page and often the only thing someone looks at. Three listings with a map, ratings and a call button. Ranking fourth in the map pack means being invisible without a click on "more places".

Do you handle reviews as well?

Review requests, responses and alerts are a separate service at $99 a month, because plenty of businesses want reviews without the full SEO package. Take both and the bundle price applies automatically.

How long before the profile moves?

Local ranking moves slower than most people are told. Weeks for the profile itself to look right, and longer for position to shift, depending on how competitive your category is in your part of the city. Monthly reporting shows the real numbers rather than a dashboard screenshot.

Is there a contract?

No term on local SEO. Cancel with 30 days written notice. Only the website has a 12 month term.
