Case study · Jazz guitarist and author, Cincinnati
Greg Chako.
Four careers, one front door.
A jazz guitarist with five decades of work behind him: recording artist, hotel and corporate event music, teacher and author. Each of those has a different visitor, and none of them should have to dig.
A hotel booker, a student and a reader walk in
Greg Chako spent nearly two decades playing and running live entertainment for hotels across Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Japan, then came home to Cincinnati and kept going. He records, he books CincyJazzman® for hotels, clubs and corporate events, he teaches, and he has just published a memoir. He was inducted into the Cincinnati Jazz Hall of Fame in 2025.
That is four audiences with four different jobs to do. An events manager wants to know he will not drown out the room. A guitarist wants lessons. A fan wants the new album. A reader wants the book. A single biography page serves none of them well, and a site that tries to say everything on the home page buries all four.
Split by what the visitor came for
The home page names the four areas of work and gives each its own path, then a Currently band carries the three things that change: the newest album, the memoir and his Saturday night residency. The rest of the career, the hotels and the Asia years, sits one click away for anyone who wants it.

The parts that do the work
This one is built in React on Vite rather than the Eleventy stack most of the portfolio uses, and prerendered so every page arrives as real HTML. It is still hand-coded with no page builder underneath it, and it is still one flat monthly price.
100 on Lighthouse desktop
Run it against the live site yourself. The score below is Lighthouse's own report, not a graphic we drew.

The home page alone carries a full-length portrait, a dozen album covers and four section photographs, and still paints its largest element in 0.7 seconds with nothing shifting on the page. Every image is sized for the slot it fills, which is most of the difference between a photo-heavy artist site and a slow one.
