Which and when

When to convert WebP to JPG

Compatibility. WebP is fine everywhere on the web, but plenty of desktop applications, older phones and print workflows still expect a JPG.

The trade-off

Transparency is lost, and this is a lossy format converted to another lossy format, so quality drops slightly. Convert from the original where you can.

Need something else?

To shrink a file without changing its format, use the image compressor. To change dimensions, use the image resizer. Every conversion is listed on the free tools page.

FAQ

About converting WebP to JPG

Will converting WebP to JPG increase file size?

It depends on the quality setting. At 90% quality, file sizes are often similar. WebP's superior compression means the original file may be smaller, so the JPG version could be slightly larger.

Does JPG support transparency?

No. JPG does not support transparency. Any transparent areas in your WebP image will be filled with a white background during conversion. If you need transparency, convert to PNG instead using our free Image Converter.

What quality setting should I use?

90% is the default and works well for most purposes. For print, use 95-100%. For email where smaller sizes matter, 80% provides good quality at smaller file sizes.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. All conversion happens in your browser. Your images never leave your device.

Can I convert multiple WebP files at once?

Yes! Select or drag-and-drop multiple WebP files and convert them all to JPG at once.
